Walnut Valley Festival Weekend

Despite the flooded campground the previous week, the weather for the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas was the best it has been in years. Susie and I had a wonderful time with 15 campers at Camp Casa del Parks for the weekend.

Even though the schedule was hectic, we really enjoyed having so many at the house. In addition to Susie and I, our visitors came from far and wide. From Duncanville, Tejas, we had our youngest son Steve, his wife Colleen, and our grand daughter Amelia. From Harker Heights, Texas, my brother Kendall and his wife Tara, and two nephews, Trent from the Dallas area, and Matt, a thundering "hero" student from Searcy, Arkansas. Susie's brother Paul came from Memphis, and my cousin Mike Parks and his wife Cheryl came up from Minco, Oklahoma. We also had friends from Wichita, Gary and Mary Lee Presson, as well as the visitor who traveled the farthest, Bruce Simons all the way from "Bah-stun."

Several other drop-in visitors included my mom, JoAn Beemer, grandson Mik and his friend Bret Ross, and camping neighbors Robert and Trevor Hicks.
Because there was no "camp ground pickin," I think Susie and I saw more festival shows this year than we had in the previous 20 put together. We really liked Buddy Greene and Friends, as well as The Dailey-Vincent Band. Only 354 days until the next festival. Hope to see everyone there.

Wet Warm-Up for Winfield Walnut Valley Festival

By the title of this blog, can you tell I like alliteration?
The Walnut Valley Festival is an acoustic music festival held in Winfield, Kansas the third weekend of September every year. It has become a tradition for my family over the past twenty years.
This year my brother-in-law, Paul Prather, got to come out for the Land Rush where all the campers high tail it for the camping spot they want. We got the area we wanted to camp in...but then the rains came in and flooded us out.
At this point in time the pre-fest camping is on hold, and the festival itself may be affected by the aftermath of the flood.
I'll post something next week on how it turns out.
